Spatial Reflections on Muslims’ Segregation in Britain

The diversity of multicultural, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic groups communities within Britain has created cohesion integration challenges for different community authorities to adapt the current diverse society. More recently, there been an increased focus on Muslim segregation in official reports reviews. Those documents mentioned Muslims’ (directly or indirectly) various reasons, some recommendations have aimed improve “community cohesion” general “integration” particular. However, participation design planning regeneration development projects yet be focused on, although these recommended promoting through projects. Community architecture—in its broader sense—is a crucial aspect that contributes towards fulfilling tasks serving with religious ethnic backgrounds. cultural practices problematised urban spaces perceived as leading social spatial segregation. This paper intends explore how secular are used by Muslims their practices. Therefore, article aspires inform demonstrates role inclusion designing integration. Ellesmere Green project Burngreave, Sheffield, UK, is empirical example exploring this locally semi-structured interviews members, leaders, local authorities’ officials. findings demonstrate sacred interconnected everyday lives, boundaries between them blurry. data also show having ability manifest does not suggest desire segregation, nor it reduce willingness interactions non-Muslims.
